Delays and Options!

Dear Valued Backers,
Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jay Martin, I am the Black Sun Studios Manager, and I shall be assuming responsibility for the updates and correspondence relating to this KickStarter campaign.
Since our last update (and we are all too aware that we missed one too) much has happened, though tangible progress remains limited—an understandably disappointing reality for both backers and Black Sun Studios.
Please rest assured that we are diligently working to bring your rewards to you. In light of this, we have devised a potential solution to accommodate your varied preferences.
OPTION 1
We are offering those backers unwilling to wait any longer to receive their miniatures in a plain, sturdy, cardboard box minus all "extras" such as the artwork, stickers, authenticity certificates and the like. These will be despatched first. If you wish to take up this option, you MUST send us an email no later than 24th October at [email protected] with your name and title of your chosen pledge, in the SUBJECT line of your email. Allow me to make it abundantly clear that THIS IS NOT the experience we had planned for you and would much prefer to deliver the project as originally intended.
Please note, this approach introduces additional logistical complexity, requiring meticulous organisation to ensure accuracy. We kindly ask you to consider how you wish to proceed and communicate your preference accordingly.
Let me emphasise once more, we urge ALL OF OUR BACKERS, if at all possible, to wait a little longer as we are convinced that you will be extremely happy with the final finished product.
OPTION 2
Meanwhile, backers willing to wait a little longer for the complete package—including all of the "extras" —will receive their entire pledge, as originally intended, a little later.
We have an imminent meeting with our resin production partner and will be able to provide a more accurate schedule for both options in our next update.
As a small business deeply committed to the figure painting community and the modelling hobby, it pains us to see some questioning the integrity of Black Sun Studios and our ability to deliver on our promises. Please know that every day is dedicated to overcoming obstacles and ensuring that we produce miniatures of the highest quality.
We have several exciting miniatures scheduled for future release in collaboration with Adrian Smith; however, it has always been my unwavering commitment that this Kickstarter campaign is fulfilled, before any new steps are taken regarding future releases related to this project.
Thank you for your continued patience and support. We truly understand your frustrations, and share your desire for smoother progress. Rest assured, we will get there—that’s a promise!

Dear Backers,
We had intended to provide an update today; however, at the last minute, we are still finalising some important details crucial for the next phase. As a result, we will need a little more time before sharing the full update.
Thank you very much for your understanding and patience.

Dear Backers,
We are pleased to provide you with this monthly update as part of our ongoing commitment to maintain transparent communication. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understand the frustration that can arise from delays and communication gaps. We recognize how important this project is to all of you, and we are dedicated to fulfilling it as swiftly as possible.
It has been approximately a year since our Kickstarter campaign successfully concluded, and we want to assure you that we are working diligently behind the scenes to bring this project to completion. While we continue to encounter some challenges, rest assured, we remain fully committed to delivering an exceptional product.
We had hoped to share more positive updates this month, which is why we delayed this message until now. We are optimistic that August will bring better news, and we look forward to sharing progress with you then. The recent adjustments we made to our project management approach have proven beneficial, and we remain on track to begin shipping pledges within the 12-16 week timeframe outlined previously.
We kindly ask for your continued patience and trust as we work tirelessly to deliver this project. Please know that we are doing everything in our power to bring it to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
A Step in the Right Direction...

I wanted to provide a further update along with some long-overdue good news. However, first and foremost, I want to acknowledge our failure, once again, to deliver regular updates.
I now realise the importance of consistent communication and regret not maintaining it. While there have been reasons, as previously mentioned, there are truly no excuses for this lapse. It has been 10 months since our Kickstarter was successfully funded, and I sincerely appreciate your patience.
Moving forward, I am pleased to share that following our update on May 4th, 2025, several key issues delaying the project have been resolved.
Complications and Delays Faced
Our main challenges primarily revolved around:
- Design and Printing
- Quality Control
- Packaging
Our Solutions
To address these issues, we have restructured the “project management” aspect of this Kickstarter campaign. We have developed a revised timeline, and we are making every effort to adhere to it. Our current plan is to begin shipping pledges within the next 12-16 weeks, with the possibility of an earlier delivery if everything progresses smoothly.
Since its inception, Black Sun Miniatures has been run by a single individual—myself. The recent pressures from this Kickstarter, along with my commitment to delivering the highest quality miniatures, have led me to make the decision to bring on additional support for operations.
Moving forward, all quality control and packaging will be handled exclusively at Black Sun Studios. This change is aimed at ensuring the best possible products for our valued backers and customers.
Creating this Kickstarter has always been driven by my passion for Fantasy Art and miniatures, with the goal of delivering something truly memorable. I am committed to ensuring every detail is perfect—from the design and print quality to the sculpting, casting, and packaging. To achieve this, rigorous Quality Control is essential, and it will require some time to carefully prepare and produce the volume of models needed. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to bring this vision to life!
Our Promises
Firstly, we recognise the importance of keeping you informed. Therefore, we commit to providing at least one update each month from now until your pledges are fulfilled.
Despite the challenges of time constraints and unforeseen pressures, we will also strive to offer behind-the-scenes updates. This will give you an inside look at some of the creative processes, allowing you to see firsthand how your support is making an impact.
A sincere thank you.
None of this would have been possible without you. Your belief and trust in our vision have been the cornerstone of this project, and we are fully committed to exceeding your expectations. Every pledge, share, and message of encouragement (or even critique) has fueled our determination to bring this project to life.
Please bear with us a little longer.
Long Overdue Update
– Sun, May 04, 2025 at 11:56:27 AM
Understandably many of you have expressed concern over the lack of updates in regards to the progress of this project. We realise we have failed in that regard. We are committed to this Kickstarter, and to delivering high quality miniatures to every backer. This project, and this period of our business life has been very challenging.
As mentioned in the last update, the first setback was with the printers who were handling printing for the art cards, posters and packaging. That particular issue has almost been solved. More recently, we had problems with a third party that we had arrangements with to package the models and handle shipping to specific locations. For various reasons that arrangement has now been abandoned. To clarify, quality control is, and always will be done in house. This arrangement was to simply package those models that had already passed QC and then ship. On top of all of this, there is also the significant increasing costs on every front.
I'm not trying to give excuses, just reasons. Ultimately every setback is our own responsibility. No doubt this KS is delayed. Please know we are fully committed to delivering this project.
We are working towards a revised timeline and will provide a more concrete estimate in our next update later this month.
